LITTLE LEAGUE PLEDGE: I trust in God, I love my country, and will respect its laws. I will play fair and strive to win. But win or lose, I will always do my best!

Harney Little League Rapid City, SD

A Letter from the Harney UIC

Thank you for at least considering the role of Umpire!

First, let's be up front.  The Umpire role is intimidating for many and often volunteers have ZERO desire to do it.  Commonly, volunteers say many things prevent them from umpiring which include baseball knowledge or understanding of game rules.  The worst though is a fear of being mistreated or heckled by other parents!  Truth is, this is 100% the truth!  You don't always know the rules.  You don't always understand what is going on.  You get heckled.

But, the grounding point to consider is, "I'm there for these kids!"

Important to note, I'm a coach and parent too!  I LOVE UMPIRING and especially behind the plate.  I'm not a certified LL Umpire yet, but I've worked tournaments, All-Stars, and tons of games in all divisions to ensure my ability is sharp.  I read the rule book every season and can answer many situational questions if folks are not sure.  It's a passion and why I've volunteered to be the Harney Umpire In Charge (UIC) for the coming season.

My personal goal in the coming season (and maybe a few more) is to provide learning opportunities for anyone interested in learning to be a good Umpire.  I've done research to find some great online videos for the visual learner and will be rolling out a more comprehensive Umpire training program soon.  Please browse what is available on this page and take time to reach out with questions or comments!  You can find my contact info under LEAGUE INFO>OUR STAFF.
